BLACK TEETH - YOU’RE NOT THERE YET

You know the drill gang it’s Monday and we got new music for ya. Today the Not Just A Phase spotlight is on a band known as Black Teeth. Black teeth is a solo project out of Ann Arbor, Michigan and they have a new release dropping this month that was heavily influenced by La dispute, We Were Skeletons, Cursed & Incendiary. The upcoming album You’re Not There Yet will be releasing digitally on October 25th and physicals are being released shortly after through BSDJ. Today we’re hyped to be debuting the first offering with single premiere that’s also titled “You’re Not There Yet”.

I recently got a chance to interview the brains behind the whole operation. From writing the parts for every instrument as well as the lyrics, to recording / mixing & mastering all the songs himself, the entire operation from (Dark) farm to table is as DIY as anyone can make a solo project. Tyler Keir put a lotta love into these songs and it shows, this single itself takes you on a ride by opening with a riff that’s just as dance happy for the listener as I know it would be to play on the fretboards. Razor sharp SYSC -esque vocals cut through Tyler’s own flawless mix with lyrics about his relationship with the music he’s made over the past five years and how these songs have negatively, and positively, impacted his life.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WRITING PROCESS?

“The writing process always starts with a chord progression that really catches my ear and typically the songs write themselves from there.”

HOW WAS YOU’RE NOT THERE YET RECORDED?

“The recording process consists of myself in a studio outside of Ann Arbor that my friend and I run called ‘Dark Farm Studios’. I almost always start with the drums and layer all the guitars second with bass, vocals and anything extra last. Basically the core of the recording comes from drums/guitars. I also mixed and mastered all the songs.”

“MY GOAL FOR BLACK TEETH IS TO KEEP WRITING SONGS I WOULD PERSONALLY WANNA HEAR AND HOPEFULLY THEY RESONATE WITH OTHERS AS WELL”.

- TYLER @BLACK_TEETH_SCREAMO

“This album is very important to me as it’s been a goal of mine to write, record, mix and master my own full length for a very long time. You’re Not There Yet is somewhat of a reflection on the past five years of my life while at the same time just a collection of songs that I’ve always really wanted to write.”

ANY CLOSING WORDS?

“Shoutout to my incredible partner Julia and my best friend Angelo, without your patience and support this project would have never existed. Love y’all.”

Don’t get caught sleeping on this band or anything BSDJ is doing. A small run of tapes and CDs are coming out shortly after October 25th so keep your eyes on Black Teeth and check their new single premiering below.
