COMA OF ERIS - SELF TITLED
Today’s New Music Monday is a premiering of the new supergroup Coma Of Eris and we’re honored to be debuting the first single “A Dip In Lake Drowning.”
Despite being written over a year ago, the lyrical content for this upcoming album is reflective of our countries' respective political climate and socio-economic state. “There's a lot of underlying political themes, but maybe they don't come right out at you. The last track, Dozing Past Decency is probably the most overt. It predicts, in a way, how the current presidential administration in America is blaming everything on ‘DEI’ and ‘Woke’”.
David Norman of Zegema Beach Records / Mourn Recif & Our Future Is An Absolute Shadow is delivering vocals alongside Edie Quinn of Middleman Records (as well as Coma Regalia & Kill Code). Edie is one half of dual guitar action with Jesse Mowery (All You Have, Armagideon Time, and more). Tom Schlatter is on bass, his resume of bands is as long as Jesse’s if not longer, and most notably known for his work in Hundreds of AU, Spiritkiller and Saetia. Finalizing the rhythm section, we have Jason Wolpert on drums from Violent Abuse and Reaping Fields.
As I said, supergroup.
Edie tells us of the origin story and how this group was formed: “Initially, Jesse and I just sent each other some drum tracks to write guitars to. When I started getting Jesse's guitars back I thought we were doing something really special. I thought if we could have Jason do the drums it would really elevate what we had going and when we asked Tom to do the bass, Jesse made a remark that it was basically Coma Regalia plus him so we brought Dave on board to make it a proper Coma / Eris collaboration.”
“I REALLY DO HOPE THAT EVERY MEMBER OF EACH BAND CONSIDERS THIS ALBUM A PART OF THEIR OWN (RESPECTIVE) BAND’S DISCOGRAPHY IN THAT SAME WAY AND THAT PEOPLE CAN HEAR IT AS A SORT OF COMPLETE STORY THAT COMES FROM A LOT OF DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES.”
- EDIE @COMA.REGALIA
“I've done a lot of projects at this point that were collaborative to one degree or another but this one was really different in a lot of ways which made me want to take a kind of ownership of it in a way that some others I have done have not. It made me want to say ‘yeah, this is a Coma Regalia release, but it's also something else’”.
SO WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM COMA OF ERIS IN 2025?
“Everyone's other bands have a million things coming this year. It's amazing we all found the time to do this in the first place. Stay tuned to each of our spaces for more about all that.”
ANY CLOSING WORDS FOR THE READERS?
“I just want to say thanks again to everyone who was a part of this record. Dave's vocals are out of control, Jesse's guitars are mesmerizing, Tom's bass parts are so damn good and Jason's drums are the glue that holds it all together.
Also: FREE PALESTINE. TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS. Take care of each other.”
Each member of the project recorded parts at their respective spaces before Edie mixed it all at Yoguwit Studios II.
The album is being released by Zegema Beach and Middle-Man Records on February 14th, 2025. We’re honored to be premiering their first single A Dip In Lake Drowning with the lyric sheet below.
I emit voices, you hear vices.
An entrapment of profiles. A standstill, but behind you crumbles away.
It's an argument that you're hellbent on saving face (but that face is hideous) and I wouldn't put it past you to cozy up to your grandkids' coffins.
Coma of Eris is Dave Norman on vocals, Edie Quinn on guitar and vocals, Jesse Mowery on guitar, Tom Schlatter on bass and Jason Wolpert on drums.
