BUG MOMENT - PURPLE GUY
Milwaukee based band Bug Moment are always evolving, much like a caterpillar does, (yes, bad bug-pun intended). Today we’re premiering their brand new single “Purple Guy”. This new single is showcasing a continual progression of their style by dabbling into elements of chiptune and hyper pop while remaining flawlessly tied into their emo rooted sound. Bug Moment is a beautiful conglomeration of sounds that take inspiration from many bands to form their own unique style. Their main influences come from a local Miluwakee pop-punk outfit Honey Creek, a post-hardcore band I Met A Yeti, and the darling Sweet Pill.
I conducted an interview via emails with their vocalist Jasmine to dig into the soil that feeds their music with them to learn more about their upcoming EP that is scheduled to arrive by February.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WRITING PROCESS?
“Everything typically starts with a conversation about what we think would be both original and fun to make, followed by a proposed guitar riff from either Gray or Aidan. The riff then takes form compositionally, and often finds itself being written with accompaniment from the drums. Jasmine then experiments with finding the melody and seeing where it would fit, and Elias likes to complement what’s present with his bass. Lastly, everyone discusses the extras, be that sneaking in an auditory easter egg, or adding the final layers of glitter and polish (A.K.A. the sauce).
it’s entirely DIY, we record through Abelton, with every instrument being processed and simulated digitally. We are poor and cannot afford analog recording equipment but hopefully someday we can.”
HOW IS BUG MOMENT BEING MIXED AND MASTERED?
“At Eli’s house, in his cousin Sterling’s bedroom. He is incredibly talented and has been integral in our existence as a band.”
HOW DO YOU IDEALLY WANT YOUR MUSIC AND THIS UPCOMING EP TO AFFECT YOUR LISTENERS?
”We all feel as though this release is very identifying for us as a whole, we really just hope people have fun with it and enjoy it.”
“WE REALLY JUST WANT TO PLAY THE MUSIC WE LOVE AND BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY, WITHOUT BEING TAKEN SERIOUSLY, IF THAT MAKES ANY SENSE.”
- JASMINE @BUGMOMENT
ANY FUTURE SHOWS OR TOURS LINED UP?
“We just played a wonderful show with emo LEGENDS Foxing on September 24th, and we’re finishing our year with a handful of local shows, as well as one in Ohio mid-October!”
WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE BAND? ANY SPECIFIC GOAL OR MILESTONES YOU ARE AIMING TO REACH?
“We’re all in on the EP slated for February, after which we will hopefully tour! After playing for Foxing, we would love to be considered as support for more of the bands we love (Sweet Pill, Michael Cera Palin would be the holy grail for us).”
“Purple Guy” is debuting below with us here today and it will be on all streaming platforms for October 25th, the band has one more single in the chamber that’s set to fire off by early December at the latest.
They are somehow still unsigned despite being a stand out band on any bill they could be placed onto but I have no doubt that they will find a label to call home very soon and I look forward to watching them continue to grow and go on to accomplish so many great things as a band.
