Finland based emoviolence act Letterbombs have been hammering blast beats and fast riffs into the ears of their fans since early 2020. Amongst many releases including 8 different splits as well as being featured on our podcast and both volumes of our Not Just A Phase compilations. Letterbombs is a band I’ve loved since day one and we’re excited to be debuting their new single “Encased In Rose Quartz” for their upcoming LP “This World Is Cursed”. We had a talk with their vocalist and guitarist Chris and got all the details about their influences, their writing and recording process, the labels involved in this release and much more.

HOW WAS THE WRITING PROCESS FOR THIS ALBUM?

“Very similar to how I approach songwriting usually. I’d write the song on guitar and then have all the members write what they want without really having any say in what they do, since we’re a band not a one-person show. The biggest difference was choosing the tracks for the album, since these tracks were all written between 2020-2023. Some were clear choices and others eventually just made their way in and found their place on the album.”

HOW WAS THE ALBUM RECORDED?

“We all recorded our own parts as usual and that’s pretty much it. This is the first release where I’ve recorded the guitars myself, as usually I’ve done this with my dad. We just couldn’t find the time, since we were both busy. Jussi (Pohjanen), our old drummer, who was still a part of the band during this period mixed the album, as pretty much all our music so far. He’s even mixing some of the newer material, despite not being a part of the band and Steve Roche (Saetia, ex-Off Minor) from Permanent Hearing Damage mastered the album.”

“ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS MUSICALLY IS THE SPLITS WE GOT TO DO WITH BANDS WE LIKE. THIS ENABLED US TO EXPERIMENT AND PUSH OUR OWN BOUNDARIES AS A BAND WHICH EVENTUALLY CAME FULL CIRCLE IN THE FORM OF THESE 10 SONGS.”

“We hope you all enjoy our debut album and grab a copy, either from us or one of the labels. Thanks to all the labels making physical releases possible. Also, all the people we’ve played with and who’ve attended our gigs and supported us in the past. We hope to go and play abroad more and so far, things seem to be looking good on that front. We’re also currently working on a couple splits and then have other releases in the works, which we’ll focus on later in the year.”

“This World Is Cursed” will be released on vinyl on the15th of July by the following labels, No Funeral Records (Canada), Desperate Infant Records (China), Dingleberry Records (Germany), Fireflies Fall (France), Shove Records (Italy), Engineer Records (UK), Pasidaryk Pats Records (Lithuania). There will also be a limited cassette version available via Semi Collective Records (USA).”
