PROM NIGHT MASSACRE - l8ly
This weeks short review covers the one man band Phantom Night Massacre.
Vinnie Crawford is the Canadian solo artist behind the sound of his band and most recent single “l8ly”. The two tracks “l8ly”, and a cover of “tillary” by Drug Church, immediately lulled me in with the eerily calm and almost hauntingly soft vocals tucked in along side soothing, lullaby esque guitar melodies.
The other slightly older single titled “The virgin suicides” has all the same components but with a MySpace era pop vibe, including some auto tune vocals and a spacey reverb tone drenching the guitar rhythm making it sound closer to a keyboard than a guitar.
Vinnie sights his main musical inspirations as his friend and frequent collaborator James Joyce whom he has written songs with and produced for under his previous moniker “emochanel”. Other artistic inspirations he sighted include horror movies, violent video games, ICP, Cheif Keef, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, Cap’n Jazz and his girlfriend.
I hope he was kidding about ICP but I really look forward to hearing more of his work in the future.
